Lingyi Liao
Lingyi Liao is an independent film director based in Shanghai, Beijing, and NYC. She graduated from Emerson College with a degree in Media Arts Production and started working as a film director in 2019.
Themes from real life are the basis for Lingyi's films, which primarily focuses on how modern culture influences individuals with multiracial identities, what fosters diversity in society, and how it shapes people's beliefs. This highlights the complex social reality of the choices that have also been driven by technology and helps the audience feel more realistically alienated by human nature and choices. Lingyi views immigrants and international students as her creative subjects. She also investigates how various societies have influenced local people and their home cultures through her photography. She records people's daily lives and the environment while enhancing her films' inventiveness.
